What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

In times of sickness and crisis, individuals are often unable to cope with the stress of responding correctly and with living daily life. Most are unable to achieve the best outcomes as they are unaware of where to turn and what to do. Which medical facility or professional is most suited to their needs, how to gain access to what they need, whether their insurance coverage is sufficient and how to break through red tape are beyond many. Practical problems of arranging appointments, transportation appointments and treatment, care and food for family members, places to stay if required are likewise beyond what many are capable of in times of stress and may often result in lower standards of care. In some instances, home-care is indicated when exposing patients to medical facilities for recuperation, bloodwork and wound care would compromise their health.

Our programs

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

The Bikur Cholim Friendship House Network

The Bikur Cholim Friendship Houses are the kosher hospitality houses for patients' relatives. Our houses are beautifully furnished with comfortable bedrooms and fully-stocked kosher kitchens.

Population(s) Served

Bikur Cholim services 18 kosher pantries at area hospitals, which are stocked daily with meals, provisions and nourishment for patients and their families who are hospital bound.

Population(s) Served

Bikur Cholim works closely with patients undergoing medical issues and becomes the connection between overwhelmed patients and top tier medical professionals. This gives patients the confidence to navigate the often confusing world of of hospitals and medical care.

Population(s) Served

This service provides a private driver to patients with cancer that need to travel to and from their appointments and treatments, while keeping their privacy but without compromise to their comfort.

Population(s) Served

Bikur Cholim has a fleet of fully-equipped handicapped vans that transport wheelchair bound elderly and the handicapped to local appointments and family events.

Population(s) Served

At Bikur Cholim we recently upgraded the "housing" for our Medical Equipment - not-for-profit loan service, from a storage room to a large storage facility to accommodate our ever growing inventory. We have stock of hospital grade equipment, adaptive devices, and smaller medical items. Many of these items are delivered to homes to accommodate the elderly, home bound and disabled.

Population(s) Served

Provides basic medical help to home-bound patients to help them avoid hospitalization and doctor-visits. Wound care, phlebotomy, EKG, IV management, infusions and injections are provided by volunteer medical professionals. This service allows for earlier discharge from hospital and has been of particular importance during COVID19 in ensuring the minimization of time spent in hospital settings.

Population(s) Served

Bikur Cholim boasts a commercial kitchen at our headquarters which produces close to 4,000 meals a week. These meals are delivered to hospital patients, our kosher pantries in hospitals and to families going through a crisis. We service families going through a wide range of crises such as family loss, pregnancy loss, or illness in the family. This service provides much needed respite and nourishment at a time of stress.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

LRBC aims to ameliorate the distress of sickness by provision of services and assistance designed to ease the burden of patients and their families. We are there to advocate for them, to identify their requirements and provide them with whatever is necessary to mitigate their necessities. optimal outcomes are much easier to achieve when information and services are made available. We aim to provide the full gamut of required help through the process of sickness and recovery by evaluation of each case that we become aware of and identification of how the path to recovery can be expedited and eased. while removing as many stressors and unknowns as possible.

Lev Rochel Bikur Cholim addresses the needs of those in crisis through the provision of advocacy and advice to those who need help navigating the medical world. We maintain a large database of medical professionals enabling us to help patients reach satisfactory choices as well as ensuring that in times of emergency, treatment can be acquired in a timely manner. Once a patient is hospitalised, LRBC provides assistance to the patient and their families through provision of kosher meals, kosher pantries, housing and transportation when requires as well as ensuring that meals are provided to the families of patients. We maintain a warehouse of medical equipment for the benefit of the community ranging from crutches and shower chairs to complex oxygen-provision machinery, hospital beds and monitoring equipment to enable community members to maintain a functional level of standard of life even when sick. We have a fleet of transport vehicles to get patients to hospitals and medical specialists for treatment and testing. Our state of the art kitchens produce over 4,000 meals a week to provide patients in hospitals and their families at home with nourishing hot food.

We maintain a dedicated staff and offices available 24/7 to address the needs of the sick. We have departments for advocacy, home care, transportation, a full commercial kitchen, property maintenance for our Friendship Houses network and a team of 250 volunteers as well as a fundraising department. We develop and maintain active relationships with local emergency services and municipal authorities as well as with the hospitals we service. We have a medical advisory board with whom we consult on local and national medical issues.

Balance sheet

Fiscal Year: Jan 01 - Dec 31

SOURCE: IRS Form 990 info

The balance sheet gives a snapshot of the financial health of an organization at a particular point in time. An organization's total assets should generally exceed its total liabilities, or it cannot survive long, but the types of assets and liabilities must also be considered. For instance, an organization's current assets (cash, receivables, securities, etc.) should be sufficient to cover its current liabilities (payables, deferred revenue, current year loan, and note payments). Otherwise, the organization may face solvency problems. On the other hand, an organization whose cash and equivalents greatly exceed its current liabilities might not be putting its money to best use.
