Mission

Kitty Bungalow is a community cat organization and kitten socialization facility. We focus our attention on providing services for the most vulnerable of felines. Our cats and kittens come from the mean streets of Los Angeles, whether directly from TNR, pulling from LA Animal Services, or working with our remarkable rescue partners. Kitty Bungalow provides the community with free TNR services, which allows for thousands of cats to be fixed, receive vaccines and flea treatment, and get returned to the people who care for them. Kitty Bungalow intakes hundreds of kittens each year into Charm School. Our dedicated family of onsite volunteers and foster parents care for our "students" and use fear-free socialization techniques to take street cats from 'hiss to home.'

Adoptions

In 2025, Kitty Bungalow continued to make a life-saving impact for vulnerable cats and kittens across Los Angeles. Hundreds of kittens and cats were directly adopted into loving homes, and dozens of additional animals were transported to trusted partner organizations to increase their chances of adoption. Through the dedication of our highly trained volunteers, feral kittens received critical care, socialization, and enrichment—transforming them from frightened, undersocialized animals into affectionate, adoptable companions. Our strong online presence and extensive network of supporters and volunteers played a vital role in connecting these animals with families, helping prevent countless kittens from returning to the streets and contributing to the ongoing feral cat overpopulation crisis in Los Angeles.

Our Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program plays a critical role in supporting both community cats and the people who care for them throughout South Los Angeles. Through this program, we humanely trap cats living on the streets and provide essential medical care, including spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, and treatment for common health conditions. These cats often live in managed colonies supported by dedicated community caretakers who provide daily food and water. A key component of our work is partnering with and educating these caretakers on the importance of spay and neuter as a long-term, humane solution to reducing overpopulation and improving the overall health of colony cats. All TNR services are provided free of charge, removing financial barriers for caregivers and ensuring that underserved communities have access to critical animal welfare resources.

Our Working Cat Program provides a life-saving alternative for adult feral cats who are not suited for traditional adoption. Through this program, nearly 250 cats deemed unadoptable in city shelters were rescued and given a second chance at life. Each cat receives comprehensive medical care, including spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, and flea treatment, before being placed in safe outdoor homes such as warehouses, businesses, and private properties. These environments allow the cats to live independently while still receiving consistent food, water, and shelter. In return, working cats offer a natural, environmentally friendly form of rodent control—reducing the need for harmful poisons and contributing to healthier ecosystems. This program not only saves the lives of cats who would otherwise face euthanasia, but also provides humane, sustainable solutions for the community. By matching each cat with an appropriate environment, Kitty Bungalow ensures they can thrive.

Kitty Bungalow’s foster program provides a critical bridge between rescue and adoption, offering cats and kittens a safe, nurturing environment where they can heal, grow, and thrive. Foster volunteers open their homes to animals in need—often caring for neonatal kittens, recovering medical cases, or those requiring additional socialization before they are ready for adoption. Fosters play an essential role in monitoring health, building trust, and helping kittens develop into confident, well-adjusted companions. Kitty Bungalow supports foster caregivers every step of the way by providing medical care, supplies, and ongoing guidance. By expanding capacity beyond the shelter, the foster program allows Kitty Bungalow to save more lives while giving each animal the individualized attention they need. This program not only improves outcomes for vulnerable cats but also creates a deeply rewarding, hands-on way for community members to make a direct impact.

Population(s) Served

Kitty Bungalow’s volunteer program offers a wide range of meaningful opportunities for individuals to get involved and make a direct impact on the lives of community cats. From hands-on, on-site roles caring for and socializing kittens, to serving as adoption counselors who help match animals with the right homes, volunteers are essential to every aspect of our work. Supporters can also participate in outreach and networking events, helping to raise awareness, build community partnerships, and connect more cats with loving adopters. Whether working behind the scenes or engaging with the public, volunteers play a vital role in advancing our mission. With training, guidance, and a supportive community, Kitty Bungalow ensures that every volunteer is empowered to contribute in a way that aligns with their interests and availability—making it easy for anyone to get involved and create lasting change.

Balance sheet

Fiscal Year: Jan 01 - Dec 31

SOURCE: IRS Form 990 info

The balance sheet gives a snapshot of the financial health of an organization at a particular point in time. An organization's total assets should generally exceed its total liabilities, or it cannot survive long, but the types of assets and liabilities must also be considered. For instance, an organization's current assets (cash, receivables, securities, etc.) should be sufficient to cover its current liabilities (payables, deferred revenue, current year loan, and note payments). Otherwise, the organization may face solvency problems. On the other hand, an organization whose cash and equivalents greatly exceed its current liabilities might not be putting its money to best use.
